When my family and friends get together, we all end up congregating in the kitchen, around the island, talking, having drinks, helping cook, chopping and dicing, and that’s exactly what’s happening in homes across America. But here’s what happens if your child is helping in the kitchen, where all of this organized chaos and commotion is occurring what can happen? Injury can happen.  Here are 5 tips to keep your kiddos safe and sound.

  1. Your child needs to be at an age where they actually follow directions, meaning if you tell them that they need to back away or not touch that they will actually back away and not touch. This may happen at different ages for all kids but in general if hot sources are on or available I would say no kids cooking with heat.

  1. Place your kids work are on the island away from the stove.
  2. Do not leave the oven door open if children are cruisers and/or can walk.
  3. Have kids help with the dry ingredients. This will keep them on the counter or island and away from the hot stuff.
  4. Do not let kids take hot items from the microwave
